Frozen Bear LakeAs light winds whipped across a frozen Bear Lake, the falling snow seemed to have admiration to my camera lens. Having to cover the camera and lens in-between shots, I did manage to get this image. The snow on the branches, the stillness, the falling snow...it creates sacred space. "You could hear a pin drop" would not be far from the truth. What this image does not reflect was the amount of tourists at the lake that day. Bear Lake is one of the more popular destinations in Rocky Mountain National Park and gives access to many other remote and beautiful areas.

Long's FireFire on Long's Peak. As if the sun itself touched the tip and it erupted into countless flames with embers flying off to the east. It was a cold day only to be matched with winds off the divide. Watching this develop over an hour was simply breath taking. When i first set my camera up and waited, there was no one around me. The wind was blowing, the elk were grazing nearby, and the silence of nature was around me. It was zen.

Denver City, NightAs the sun faded away, the city came to life. Denver has so far been the most interesting city I have explored. So many sights and different areas of attraction. If I was to become a street photographer, this is where I would make my living. The energy is absolutely perfect for it and the street performers are very unique. 16th Street Mall seems to have its own life form the rest of the city. I could definitely live here. PS: Notice the orange and blue themes cheering on the Denver Broncos.

Pedernales Falls SunsetAs it is the end of the year, I tend to go back into the different folders of images and look at all I shot this year. I just happened to stumble upon an image that was finished but never posted here! This is Pedernales Falls just west of Austin, TX. This area is prone to swift and massive flash floods but the beauty that radiates from the worn rocks, cedar trees, and basin during sunset are second to none. The large deposits of limestone and granite are easily shaped into canyons, crevasses, and pools. From the vantage point the camera is on, the opposite side of the falls is about 100-125 yards away. During the summer, this is a hot tourism destination for anglers and floaters. Further down river are areas to hike, bike, camp, and bird watching just to name a few. Its a gorgeous little state park tucked off the beaten path in the Texas hill country.

The Houston Skyline, I69The sunset last night (12/22), a dramatic and well played out sight. I started scouting locations about 5pm which was in the midst of what photographers call "golden hour". After becoming frustrated with the west side of Houston, I went back to the east side near Saint Arnold's Brewery. Right as I crossed over Interstate 10, the sky told me I had 5-10 minutes to find a spot and get the shots. So I immediately pulled over, got the camera out, set my exposure, and shot this panorama. The scene reminds me of something lost in Houston's past. A view from some ones fractured dream of the way northeast downtown should be. Still, Houston sits proud and foreboding, as to say I am a force of accomplishment with just sheer will power. Being 4th largest in the nation, we definitely are a city to be proud of.

North Main, Saturday Night (B&W)Inspiration, for me, is never a planned event. It always strikes me in the moment and takes me where ever I feel it must. Thus, if I have the time, I get the camera out and feed my soul with the energy of what I found. The moments I don't have time or my camera is not with me, I store that vision and energy away, while I find the time to express it and nurture my being with it.
This image of Main Street was not planned. In fact, the plan for the evening was to be in the medical center, shooting the main thorough fare. When that fell apart, I drove back to my work and looked around. That's when my instinct caught it, the energy of inspiration. I walked onto the North Main Street bridge over the bayou and looked south into the heart of the city. There it was, the shot I had come to find. From there it was setting up the tripod and seeing to the technical aspects of the shot. Neutral Density Filters, Check. Wired Trigger, Check. All was ready.
The resulting image took about one and a half hours to get. I was battling mosquitoes, humidity, and headlights from the light rail and cars. Definitely worth the time and effort, as this is a view I don't think many see in downtown.
I felt compelled to do a black and white version of this image. The colors, I felt, were vivid yet distracting from the details of the image. Using a different development process, I brought the details forward to show the intricacy of the city. For those who are curious, this was taken from the North Main Street bridge over the bayou looking south.

Worthem Center, Houston, TexasWorthem Center has a hidden gem located on the east side of Houston, TX. This large water feature with falls located next to the bayou was dedicated to the people and companies that helped build Worthem Center and the surrounding grounds.
The falls features three different styles of falls, this being the upper falls, with 2 lower sections that ever so change the tune of the falling water. With my dramatic light coming from the large gazebo above and to the left, I chose to let the drama play out with long exposure and black and white.

Main Street, Houston, TexasMain Street in downtown Houston, TX is such a cool and upcoming area. The north end is littered with historical buildings that carry so many stories of prosperity, yet equally matched by tragedy. The south end contains a mix of more recent office buildings and hotels with a few classic builds mixed in. The real tragedy of downtown Houston is the abundance of parking lots that have replaced many classic and historical buildings.
The view from this photograph is looking south along METRO's Red Line. This water pond has a water feature that shoots up during the day when trains pass. During the night, this area becomes a hang out for the homeless of Houston. The buildings seen here are (Left to Right) One City Center and BBVA Compass Bank.

Gorman FallsGorman Falls is a strange and amazingly peaceful place in Colorado Bend State Park. The mineral rich spring water deposits delicate calcite slowly forming the travertine formations. This new growth is fragile and provides a unique environment for lush aquatic vegetation. This ecosystem is very delicate with most of the area roped off from visitors.
